Memories of Grandma

In honor of my dearly beloved grandmother who would have turned 91 tomorrow. She passed away so many years ago but I still miss her deeply.

Memories of Grandma

I went in search of her yesterday
Past that old farmhouse at the corner of town
Memories came flooding from all around
Taking me back to…

Chorus:
Strawberry sundaes from the Dairy Queen
Chocolate milk on the old porch swing
Blackberry picking in our own backyard
Memories of grandma fillin’ my heart

Afternoons watching Gone with the Wind
And every Elvis movie there’s ever been
She would call me sissy, I would call her gram
I remember those…

Chorus:
Strawberry sundaes from the Dairy Queen
Chocolate milk on the old porch swing
Blackberry picking in our own backyard
Memories of grandma fillin’ my heart

She was my strength and my foundation
The woman who taught me to have compassion
If my voice reached heaven she’d hear me say
I miss those days of…

Chorus:
Strawberry sundaes from the Dairy Queen
Chocolate milk on the old porch swing
Blackberry picking in our own backyard
Memories of grandma fillin’ my heart

Unseen Notebooks

Words tucked away
In unseen notebooks
Bares her soul
Where no one sees
Afraid of the truth
And how it's perceived
Vulnerable and defenseless
She quietly sits alone
Reveals her darkest secrets
Records every milestone
With her words tucked away
In unseen notebooks

A Place Like No Other

A Place Like No Other

The alarm goes off
I hit the snooze
The news is on
And it’s not good
I want to go back in to my slumber
I want to dream of a place like no other
A place where dreams float upon the air
Where you can reach high and take your pick
A place where peace, love and compassion reign
Where the innocence of our children is not at risk
A place where they can grow strong and stable
Where never a harsh word could be spoken
Or a clenched fist raised
A place where war has no meaning
A place where men and woman don’t have to
Die to be free
A place where tears turn to laughter
A place where the sense of loss becomes
A little less heavy
Until that exists in the world
I’ll continue to dream of
A place like no other

There Beside You

This particular creation holds a very special place in my heart. It’s the first poem I tried to morph into a lyric. I’m not even sure where the idea to create a song lyric came from. Chalk it up to another one of those, “out of the blue” type moments. The lyric version has earned me runner up status four times through out the years from Song of the Year. Just this past December, it was part of the three entries that earned the Collective Works Honor. As minor as that may be it is still an accomplishment none the less. It makes me proud. I suppose it could use a little tweaking, but honestly, I love it the way it is!

There Beside You

Poem Version:

I’m there beside you
I’m the passion that stirs you
You think you feel me
But you’re unsure
You breathe me in
And taste my desire
I satisfy your hunger
You feed my soul
I’m the candlelight that guides you
I’m there in the distance
You exhale and I dance upon your breathe
I’m there beside you
I’m the raw excitement at your fingertips
I’m the unbridled energy that rages deep within
I’m the feeling of youth in the depths of your soul
I’m there beside you.

Lyric Version:

I’m there beside you
I’m the passion that stirs you
You think you feel me
But you’re unsure

Chorus:
I’m there beside you
In the cover of night
I’m there beside you
I’m your shadow in the light

You breathe me in
And taste my desire
I satisfy your hunger
You feed my soul

Chorus:
I’m there beside you
In the cover of night
I’m there beside you
I’m your shadow in the light

I’m the candlelight that guides you
I’m there in the distance
You exhale and I dance upon your breathe

Chorus:
I’m there beside you
In the cover of night
I’m there beside you
I’m your shadow in the light

What do you think? Is it a keeper? Don't hold back. Good or bad, I want to hear it.

Then came the rain...

Hi! Thanks for stopping back in!

As I mentioned in my earlier blog post, the muse had been unleashed. The words flowed so easily, so effortlessly, so deep. Even as I watched my own hand scribbling out these words, I couldn’t believe what I had written. Something very powerful was at work here. Something I was unable to contain. But, then I thought, why contain it? Let it free and see where it takes me. Embrace it!

There’s A Force

There’s a force that pulls me
I try to resist
But I am beat
There’s a voice that haunts and soothes me
I have no control
I can only yield to the beauty of the words
They cover me like rain
I bathe in the soft downpour
I do not seek shelter
As it is warm and satisfying
There’s a force that pulls me
And I embrace it

Where did THAT come from?

Did I really ever consider myself a poet or a writer? Heck NO!! You just never know when or where inspiration will hit you. You never know when your "Muse" will arrive. Mine arrived on a cold winters night. I love music. I love watching recorded live shows. We all can relate to words and music. They can conjure up memories of a time and a place.....a feeling. We all can relate to the lyric that is so well written that we wish we had written it ourselves. On this particular night I settled in to watch a favorite artist perform. Some of his lyrics were incredible! They moved me. I mean, they REALLY moved me! (I own't lie...he wasn't bad on the eyes) Before I realized what I was doing I had scribbled out three poems. I looked down at what I had written and I was astounded! Those beautiful words came out of me? Wholly cow...No way! (not my exact words but you know what I meant. ;) That's when it started. That's when I started writing poems. They would come from out of nowwhere it seemed. At times I would jump out of the shower just to write down a line or a word before it slipped away. Crazy, I know! My family was even shocked at what I was writing. Some of the poems I have turned in to lyrics. I will share them all but for now here is the very first poem that I put to paper.

Can I be your muse?
Can I be your inspiration?

If only I could hide away unnoticed.
I would feed your spirit and entertain your soul.

Would it be worth all the sacrifices?
Could it be like the dreams that play in my mind?
The ones that tantalize my being.

Can I suspend time and feel the heat?
Would it be worth the burn?
Would it tattoo my soul?

This intense desire, so impure,
Lurks where no one sees.

Can I be your muse?
Can I be your inspiration.
